Session 1: The Foundations of Executive Functioning & ADHD

Let’s be honest, the term “executive functioning” is confusing. What is it exactly? Why is it important? How is it related to your ADHD? Your anxiety?

In this session, we will unpack the five steps of executive functioning and how they are interrelated. The goal is that you leave with a stronger understanding of executive functioning as well as vocabulary to articulate your experiences.

Session 2: Motivation: What props it up and what depletes it.

“I want to do it; I need to do it; I just don’t have the motivation to do it.” Sound familiar?

In this session, we will unpack the three pillars that prop up or deplete our motivation: value metrics, Executive Functioning, and our feelings. We will also learn mindfulness strategies to investigate why we may be lacking motivation as well as the necessary skills to reinvigorate it.

Session 3: Procrastination, Productivity, & Resting without Guilt

We avoid, make excuses, and say we’ll do it later, we promise! But we wait until the last moment until go-mode kicks in. This pendulum between avoidance, hyperproductivity, and guilt is so hard to break!

In this session, we will discuss what triggers procrastination and hyperfixation and why it is so hard to rest without feeling guilt or shame. We will identify Executive Functioning skills and strategies to determine manageable productivity goals and to acknowledge when it’s time to rest.

Session 4: Shame, Rejection Sensitivity, & Imposter Syndrome

Sometimes it can feel that lurking around every corner, every task, is an opportunity for our ADHD and low EF to be discovered and for rejection and shame to creep in.

In this session, we will unpack how ADHD, emotional dysregulation, and Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD) work together to make us feel safer masking. We will practice communication strategies so that we can express our authentic feelings and advocate for our needs.

Session 5: Our Working Environments, EF Tools, & Resources

We’ve all bought planners and never used them. We’ve set up calendars and downloaded apps. We’ve tried working at coffee shops, libraries, or at a desk. Still, none of it ever seems to help!

In this session, we will discuss the value of healthy working environments and identify options for you. We will also introduce the best tools available to support your functioning and will ensure you actually use them!

Session 6: Routines, Context-Switching, & Task Initiation

Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part. We have to put our entire mental weight behind being in “the zone.” It’s even harder to switch gears between rest and work, easy tasks and hard ones.

In this session, we will unpack why context-switching and task initiation are so difficult, including why it can be hard to go to bed and get up in the morning. We will explore the value of manageable routines to help you engage more consistently and with less avoidance.
