Their tasks are less clear, their time less structured, and their goals less obvious.

We’re here to help.

Summer Executive Functioning Sessions

It happens every summer and it can be so frustrating. They sleep in all the time or stay up late. They struggle to stay off screens and go outside. Hygiene can backslide. They don’t seem to want to get ahead on their summer assignments, or Eagle Scout project, or even their passion project. Outside of camps or vacations, it can be hard to find any structure to the summer.

Our Summer Executive Functioning Sessions are aimed at helping teens build that structure by utilizing essential EF skills that will empower them to reach the goals they set while managing all of their tasks more strategically and with less conflict at home.

Your child will leave each session having gained psycho-education around EF topics as well as identified the tools, strategies, and skills to move through their summer with more focus and less conflict at home.

All of your questions answered…

How is this like what you do during the school year?

During the school year, we use Encompass’ core methodology: EFCT. We provide psycho-education to help our students understand how and why their brains work like they do, alongside developing the five essential executive functioning (EF) skills that foster academic success.

  • Task Awareness: Identifying tools and routines to keep up with all of their school work and deadlines.

  • Prioritization: Helping them to name the value of their work whether that be grades or otherwise.

  • Breaking it Down: Identifying multistep tasks (think projects, essays, studying, etc) and breaking them down into manageable components of task and time.

  • Organizing Time & Environments: Developing routines to manage their time as well as identifying the best environments to both work and rest.

  • Flexible Thinking - Reflecting without Judgment: Goal setting and reflection strategies to help support their motivation and keep the anxiety low.

However, the value of these skills extends far beyond academics. That’s why our Summer EF Services focus on reinforcing these same skills outside the classroom—ensuring that our teens carry these essential life strategies with them wherever they go.

How do you teach these skills during the summer?

Using our methodology, EFCT, we teach the same five essential EF skills during the summer when their tasks are less clear, their time less structured, and their goals less obvious.

  • Task awareness: Identifying tools and routines to keep up with what they actually want to do this summer that would feel good to them, including rest and hobbies and friends and videogames.

  • Prioritization: Helping them to name the value of those tasks, whether it’s about what they want to do (go swimming and play video games) or what’s expected of them (summer homework and chores).

  • Breaking it Down: Identifying multistep tasks (think chores, hobbies, studying for the SAT, etc) and breaking them down into manageable components of task and time.

  • Organizing Time & Environments: Developing routines to manage their time as well as identifying the best environments to both work and rest.

  • Flexible Thinking - Reflecting without Judgment: Goal setting and reflection strategies to help support their motivation and keep the anxiety low.

Your teen will leave each session having gained psycho-education around these topics as well as identified the tools, strategies, and skills to move through their summer with more focus and less conflict at home.

But what if they have camp or we are traveling?

That’s okay, we understand! We know that summer is a busy time and that is why we schedule our sessions around your summer travel, camps, and other commitments.
